P27
It is always a challenge, or even a heated debate, on whether a mechanical watch today still needs to clearly tell time.
These days, mechanical watches are accessories, are personal statements. That’s why we have many newer watches where time telling can actually be a… challenge.
The Caliber 852 is a meaningful, beautiful movement. And we know for a fact that you will enjoy looking at the movement more than the time it tells. However, we still need to strike a balance.
Having the movement treated to a black color, and having the striking contrast beveling are all part of the effort to showcase this movement. So now, we have to figure out the best way to tell time.
We designed a skeleton hand so that it is consistent with the overall design. With such a thin piece of metal on a complicated watch face, one method we can take to highlight the watch hand is to vary the surface finishing.
So for this prototype, we are testing the brushed finish. With the watch case having brush finished elements as well, the hands should look coherent with the overall design.
P27, is our 1st prototype with brushed surface watch hands.
