P34

Some people think of color as just… painting.

Coloring a movement? How hard can that be?

Now let’s think about the limitations. For a movement baseplate, we are working with a tolerance of 0.005mm. Any coloring method that would affect that would be ruled out (bye-bye spray paint). At this kind of tolerance, we have to worry about thermal expansion and contraction of the component, so any coloring methods that require heat setting are also ruled out.

A chemical plating layer that is too thick will already alter the dimensions by an unacceptable amount.

Even cleaning processes with chemicals too abrasive have to be avoided.

While all black full movement components can look quite modern and attractive, we wanted to explore adding some gun silver to the mix. We had some prototypes with gun silver components before, but for this one, we added our unique EONIQ Signature movement pattern design, with the intention of really evaluating the viability of this colorway for our mass-production batch.

P34 is our first prototype with a black movement mainplate and gun silver bridges, decorated with EONIQ Signature’s movement marking. This prototype also became the reference piece for 1st batch of gun silver movement component mass production.
